All Set for ‘Dredging in India’ Conference

The 7th Annual Conference ‘Dredging in India’ will take place on August 23-24, 2016, at ITC Maratha, Mumbai.

The mission of this conference is to highlight the key trends and opportunities in the sector and discuss the key challenges.

The event, organized by India Infrastructure Publishing, will focus on strategies and solutions to meet the future dredging requirements.

It will also showcase some of the noteworthy initiatives, projects and technologies.

Mission

The Indian Ministry of Shipping released dredging guidelines in November 2015 in an attempt to bring clarity on various issues that have in the past resulted in dispute and arbitration, thereby delaying dredging projects.

Long-term contracts for maintenance dredging (up to five years); pre- and post-dredging, and payment surveys by a third party; open competitive bidding; linking contracts with incentive and disincentive modes of payment; inclusion of a price adjustment clause, etc. are the key facets.

These were supported by other announcements made in 2015 to provide a comprehensive policy framework for the sector.

Amendments to the guidelines for chartering of foreign flag dredgers; easing the process of vessel registration; agreement with the Indian Maritime University for targeted dredging courses, etc. were some of the important interventions.

The conference is targeted at:

  • Major port trusts;
  • Dredging contractors;
  • Surveyors and investigators;
  • Dredging equipment providers;
  • Shipyards;
  • Environmental analysts;
  • Dredging companies;
  • Shipping companies;
  • Technology providers;
  • Private port operators;
  • Dredging subcontractors.
