Major Dredging Project to Take Place in Kingston

A joint venture, consisting of Jan De Nul, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and EMCC, has won the $147 million contract to extend the Port of Kingston, Jamaica.

The contract covers the refurbishment, reinforcement and upgrade to seismic standards of the Port of Kingston’s 1,200 meters of quays.

The joint venture will also carry out dredging work in the access channel.

“Coming a few days after the opening of the expanded Panama Canal, which accommodates the world’s largest container ships, the contract to extend and refurbish the Port of Kingston is a strategic move for the region,” VINCI said in its announcement.

The main goal of this development scheme is to increase the alongside depth of the quays and to enable them to handle container ships of larger capacity.

The project will be completed in 25 months, according to VINCI.
