Stockton Flood Alleviation Scheme in Full Swing

Environment Agency continues work to reduce the risk of flooding from Lustrum Beck in Stockton.

A new flood wall along the beck at Bedford Street, which started in May, is almost complete, while the new lifting screen at the culvert at Primrose Hill is now operational.

Work is progressing ahead of schedule on the improved and raised embankment in the Newtown area, and construction has just begun on a flood wall along Duddon Walk. All the work is expected to be complete in September.

Environment Agency’s Ted Thomas, Project Manager, said: “Work is progressing well on the Lustrum Beck scheme. This overall scheme will bring long-term sustainable benefits to the community by significantly reducing the risk of flooding to over 150 homes and businesses.

Additional work to store extra flood water in the catchment upstream of Stockton and create new habitat is likely to begin in 2017.
