Coastwide Civil Wins Lake Illawarra Breakwater Contract

Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra, Gareth Ward, has announced that a $330,000 contract has been awarded to repair the storm damaged Lake Illawarra entrance northern breakwater.

“The contract for the repair works has been awarded to Coastwide Civil who won the competitive tender process undertaken by the Department of Industry – Lands,” Mr Ward said.

The work is expected to begin in late August and involves placement of up to 3,900 tonnes of armor rock on the breakwater and 250 tonnes of quarry run material on the crest to repair damage caused by storm events such as the one experienced in June earlier this year.

“The works are being funded under the Department of Industry’s Coastal Infrastructure Program which supports the local and regional economy by maintaining the entrance to Lake Illawarra for the public, recreational boaters, tourism operators, and fishermen that operate on the waterway,” Mr Ward added.

These repair operations are expected to take four to six weeks to complete.
