Mississippi River Commission Meeting in Hannibal

The Mississippi River Commission (MRC) will host a public meeting aboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi while it is docked at the Hannibal (Missouri) Riverfront on August 11 from 2 to 5 p.m.

The Mississippi River Commission is a seven-person, presidentially appointed commission, which conducts semi-annual inspections of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers programs and projects related to the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

As part of these inspections, the commission invites the public aboard its transportation vessel, the MV Mississippi, the largest towboat on the river.

During the public meetings, the President of the Commission provides a summary report of issues affecting Corps of Engineers programs and projects.

This report is followed by a presentation by a local Corps of Engineers district commander, in this case, Col. Craig Baumgartner of the Rock Island District.

The meeting culminates with presentations from local organizations and comments from the public who wish to share their insight into any issue affecting Corps of Engineers projects or programs on the Mississippi River.
