Ashland Dredging Project Continues

Officials from Northern States Power Company-Wisconsin have received authorization from the Environmental Protection Agency and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to continue work on the wet dredge pilot project at the Ashland Lakefront Project Site through this fall.

Crews will continue work in areas adjacent to those that have already been dredged and are expected to finish the dredging in these areas by late November.

During this ongoing work for the pilot wet dredge, crews use excavators with specially designed environmental buckets with closed lids to remove impacted sediment and wood debris.

The removed sediments and debris are placed within an enclosed structure on shore, sorted and then transported off-site to an approved landfill.

A series of “curtains” and water quality monitors are arranged throughout the pilot study area.
