Works continue on the Newhaven flood alleviation scheme with the contractor Arcadis completing ground investigation works on the ‘West Bank’.

The ground works, which started on August 8th 2016, involved drilling boreholes and trial pits to check ground conditions at the ‘West Bank’.

Latest developments on this £17 million scheme also include planning permission that was granted by Lewes District Council in July 2016.

The Environment Agency has also submitted planning applications to the South Downs National Park Authority and East Sussex County Council and they anticipate a decision on these applications soon.

The contract for detailed design and construction of the new flood defenses for Newhaven was recently awarded to JacksonHyder.

Construction works will begin in November 2016 (subject to planning) and will be completed in phases. The first phase will start in November 2016 and include works within Area 4 (Swing Bridge to West Quay) and Area 3 (Riverside Park to Swing Bridge).
