The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) will hold a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the harbor deepening on Thursday, September 1.

Various dignitaries, Congressional representatives and elected officials will gather with leaders from the Corps and the port authority to mark the completion of the port’s main navigation channel deepening, a major milestone in the port’s ongoing efforts to assure its global competitiveness.

During the course of the multi-year effort the main shipping channels were deepened to allow larger vessels to reach the port’s container terminals that rely on deep channels to transport cargo.

The ceremony will be held at the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey, at 11 a.m.
