Hilton Head Island Beach Nourishment Suspended

The Town of Hilton Head Island has just announced that all works on the town’s beach nourishment project have been suspended because of the coming storm.

As a result of the forecast track of Tropical Depression Nine (Tropical Storm Hermine), the town’s contractor Weeks Marine Inc., suspended beach fill operations on Wednesday August 31, 2016 and began their preparations for the deteriorating weather conditions associated with the advancing storm.

The dredge CR McCaskill and its supporting booster pump will be taken off station and towed inshore to sheltered waters.

The shore pipe currently assembled on the beach will be broken down and consolidated near North Forest Beach.

Some equipment and supporting material may be relocated to the town’s Collier Beach Property.

According to the latest weather forecast, the storm will roughly parallel the Carolina coast on Friday morning and into the afternoon.
