Public Forum on IRL Restoration Set for This Week

A public forum on the ‘Save Our Indian River Lagoon’ project and November sales tax referendum will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at the Gleason Park Recreation Center in Indian Harbour Beach.

‘The Save Our Indian River Lagoon Project Plan’ is a 10-year strategy to restore lagoon health.

The plan is designed to use science and data to achieve regulatory compliance cost-effectively; to maximize benefits; minimize risks; and optimize return on investment while fostering innovation and adaptation.

A half-cent sales tax has been proposed to fund the lagoon restoration plan.

The health and prosperity of this delicate ecosystem is threatened by excessive pollution, harmful muck accumulation and loss of natural filtration systems.

Most of the Indian River Lagoon lies within Brevard County. Local restoration depends on local action, taking responsibility for local sources of pollution and implementing local solutions.
