Coastline Consulting Bags Mianus River Dredging Contract

Maintenance dredging of the Mianus River Federal Navigation Channel in Greenwich, Conn., will be completed under the terms of a $2.2 million contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

Work will be accomplished by Coastline Consulting and Development, LLC of Branford, Conn.

Dredging is scheduled to start on or about October 11, 2016 and take about 3 months to complete. The contract was awarded on September 14, 2016.

The state of Connecticut is funding the entire project and signed a memorandum of agreement with the Corps so that this work could be completed.

“This project consists of mechanically dredging approximately 50,000 cubic yards of fine-grain clay and silt from the authorized 6-foot deep, by 100-foot wide Federal channel,” said Project Manager Jack Karalius, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs and Project Management Division in Concord, Mass.

“The dredged material will be disposed of using open water placement approximately 8 miles from the project site.”

The dredging window, due to environmental constraints, is October 1 to January 31.

The last time the channel was maintained was in 1985 when approximately 52,000 cubic yards of sediment were removed.
