Trinity River Vision: Bypass Channel Design Contract Awarded

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, recently awarded contracts totaling $9.9 million for bypass channel design, Riverside Park construction and design of Gateway Park sites in support of the Trinity River Vision/Central City Project.

The 1.6 mile bypass channel design will be accomplished in two segments with the north segment being designed first with a task order in the amount of $4.6 million.

Channel design will consist of an excavated center channel with new earthen levees constructed on the west side of the channel and reinforced concrete floodwalls on the east side.

“With almost $10 million in contract awards the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues the progress with our stakeholders in accomplishing the overall goals and objectives of the Trinity River Vision Project. Construction, design and other aspects of the project continue to bring the overall project forward for the people of Texas,” said Project Manager Gail Hicks.

Both sides of the channel will have recreational paths for pedestrian access, the USACE said in its announcement.
