Chautauqua County Projects Included in WRDA

Congressman Tom Reed continued his efforts to ensure protections for homeowners and small businesses by supporting new legislation which begins to examine ways to reduce flooding through the region.

We care about protecting our small business owners and homeowners from the burden of rebuilding after a natural disaster. After some of the devastating flooding we have seen across every corner of the district, it’s only right that we come together to take preventative measures to address this issue,” said Reed.

The bill, WRDA, authorizes the first step in the federal flood control project’s process.

It requires the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study qualified high risk areas to determine the potential cost, impact and practicality of flood control efforts.

The bill included Cattaraugus Creek and Silver Creek both in Chautauqua County and the Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca, NY.

All three projects would authorize the Corps to examine the possibility of making physical changes to the area to control flooding.
