Phase 1 of the Hill Head Coastal Protection Project has been completed and is now open to the public, reports Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP).
The Phase 1 works, which started 30th August 2016, involved beach renourishment and extensive groyne maintenance.
The beach material for the Phase 1 was dredged from the Solent and bought ashore in Portsmouth where it was processed and transported to the site.
The works, funded by Fareham Borough Council (FBC) moved approximately 3,000m³ of beach material by road to top up the beach in the first 5 groyne bays from the car park.
Phase 2, subject to obtaining consents and funding, is due to start in summer 2017 and will replace failing sea defenses and promenade.
