Preparations for Karwar Port Development Move Ahead

Preparations for the second phase of the Karwar Commercial Port Expansion Project are currently underway, the Times of India reports.

The second phase of this development scheme will include construction of new jetties and expansion of the port by another 1.5km in length.

The dredging operations in the sea off Karwar beach and testing of the soil beneath the sea water are already in progress.

After the completion of the second phase, the Karwar Port will be one of the important ports in the country and will fetch handsome revenue to the government, said Rajakumar Hede, assistant executive engineer of port department in Karwar.

Karwar Port, one of the few natural all-weather ports in the world, is situated at the northern extremity of Karnataka coast, 64km south of Marmugoa Porton, the southern side of the Kali River.
