Sri Lanka President Stops Illegal Land Reclamation

The Central Environmental Authority of Sri Lanka has taken an emergency action to halt large-scale land reclamation carried out illegally in two separate locations in Dandugama, Ja-ela, under the direction of President Maithripala Sirisena. 

After received a complaint lodged by the locals, President Sirisena instructed the chairman of the Central Environmental Authority to investigate the incident and visit the areas with the relevant parties.

Accordingly, the officials of the Central Environmental Authority and the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC), together with the police officers of Ja-ela Police, already started the investigation activities.

Under the directive of the President, the officials also took actions to stop this unauthorized land reclamation.

Legal actions will be taken against the persons involved in these land reclamation activities, Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka stated in its latest release.
