Weeks Marine Gears Up for Boca Raton Renourishment

Weeks Marine, the contractor for the City of Boca Raton’s Central Beach Renourishment Project, is gearing up to restart this beach fill program, according to the city’s latest announcement.

“If weather conditions cooperate, the contractor could begin pumping sand onto the beaches the week of February 6, 2017,” the release said.

The work will start at the southern end of the project area, just north of the Boca Raton inlet.

It is anticipated that the beach fill scheme will take approximately 40 days, and the operation will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week until complete.

The City of Boca Raton’s Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Permit and the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permits require beach construction activities be completed on or before April 30th each year due to sea turtle nesting season.

Project facts:

  • Total Project Length: Approximately 1.45 miles;
  • Quantity: Approximately 530,000 cubic yards of sand;
  • Project Location: Starting immediately south of Red Reef Park and continuing south to the Boca Raton Inlet;
  • Construction operations will occur on a 24/7 basis until project completion.
