Dredging Work on Edgartown Great Pond Progresses

The Great Pond Foundation (GPF) has announced in its latest release that the dredging works, undertaken to keep Edgartown Great Pond healthy and clean, are moving ahead.

“Since our last dredge update in January, we have essentially doubled our efforts with the amount of sand moved, and, we have now reached the beach,” the February announcement said.

“We then turned the dredge around and are in the process of cutting a new channel back towards the Pond. This leaves a slice of sand, similar to a piece of pie, in between the two channels.”

GPF expects to open the Edgartown Great Pond to the ocean around March 15, weather permitting.

The Edgartown Ponds Foundation will bear the dredging costs and this work is being done under town-held dredging permits, GPF said.
