MRTS Calls for Deepening of Arkhangelsk Port

MRTS Terminal LLC is interested in dredging of the main navigation channel at the seaport of Arkhangelsk to deepen it from 7.5 m to 9.2 m, according to the company’s Deputy Director General on Development, Nikita Ananyin.

During recently held Dredging Forum in Moscow, Nikita Ananyin said that MRTS is in negotiations with the regional government, commercial companies and FSUE Rosmorport over this project which is expected to cost around $3.5 million.

“The businesses are ready to take part in the project with their own expenses. State authorities will consider this issue only in the framework of the dedicated federal program,” said Nikita Ananyin.

As of today, we have settled upon the necessity to elaborate a Declaration of Intent and cargo base feasibility,” he added.

The dredging works at the port of Arkhangelsk are aimed to ensure a number of advantages: increase of cargo flow in the region; improvement of transport competitiveness; status of a federal infrastructure project; development of shipbuilding cluster; opportunity to arrange assembling of large capacity vessels; expansion of the range of cargo; development of the Northern Sea Route; generation of jobs; higher fees for ships’ calls; higher tax allocations, development of tourism sector with the calls of cruise ships.

MRTS Holding LLC is the Russian largest company carrying on installation and construction works on a ‘turn-key’ basis at all sites of the hydraulic engineering works market, i.e. pipe laying, port construction, channel dredging and development of underwater production units.
