Congressman Rooney Supports Everglades Restoration

Congressman Francis Rooney testified before Congressional colleagues during a meeting of the House Appropriations Interior and Environment Subcommittee, held earlier this week.

This testimony focused on Interior Appropriations regarding the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan.

Congressman Rooney said: “I would like to thank Committee Chairman Calvert and Ranking Member McCollum for the opportunity to present testimony on such an important issue for Southwest Florida.”

“While the bulk of Everglades restoration funding goes to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for construction and maintenance projects, the Department of Interior (DOI) provides significant support for restoration programs, including CERP. I continue to encourage the Committee to provide sufficient funding for the DOI to carry out its crucial duties, as they relate to our Everglades.”

Tuesday’s subcommittee meeting marks the third time this month that Congressman Rooney has testified on water quality issues.

In addition to testimony, the Florida Congressional delegation has signed a letter, led by Congressman Rooney, that was sent to President Trump.

This letter called on the President to support Everglades Restoration projects in his fiscal year 2018 Budget. Congressman Rooney is also a member of the Everglades.
