The Port of Odessa maintenance dredging program officially started today, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said in its latest announcement.

During this cleanup scheme, approximately 127.000m³ will be removed from the port areas and the works will be performed by the USPA owned trailing suction hopper Meotida.

With a length of 59.20 meters and breadth of 11 meters, the vessel is fully automatic and can reach a maximum speed of 9.5 knots.

TSHD Meotida will use its 400mm trailing suction pipe to perform maintenance dredging tasks up to a maximum depth of 15 meters in the harbor and its navigation channel.

According to experts of the Chief Engineer Service of the Port of Odessa, the dredging works are essential and provide the design depth at the berths which enables handling ships safely and efficiently.
