Auckland Council Invites Feedback on Orewa Seawall Plan

Auckland Council is inviting community feedback on the resource consent application to undertake construction of the Orewa coastal walkway and seawall.

The application includes the installation of a 600 meter long wall at the northern end of Orewa Beach, between Kohu Street and Marine View, aimed to provide a permanent long-term solution in an area where the esplanade reserve is narrow and subject ongoing storm erosion.

“This is an exciting time in the project as we look to finalize the details of the seawall,” said Auckland Council’s Head of Project Delivery, John Schermbrucker.

“The public notification period gives residents the opportunity to find out more about the finalized proposed seawall design and associated works.”

The wall will consist of a sloped rock revetment of boulders designed to dissipate wave energy, and basalt block and grout walls at locations where ramp and stair access is required.

The public feedback period closes at 5pm Friday 12 May 2017.
