EPA to Hold the Quanta Site Meeting

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will next week hold a “drop-in” sessions in Edgewater, N.J. to get the latest information on the start of the first phase of cleanup work at the Quanta Resources Superfund site.

The public meeting takes place from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Edgewater Borough Hall.

Representatives from the EPA and Honeywell, the party performing the cleanup under the EPA’s oversight, will be on hand to answer questions about the start of site cleanup and the plans in place to protect the health and safety of residents during cleanup.

According to the EPA, the Quanta Resources Superfund site is being addressed in two phases.

The first phase is cleanup of the land and groundwater. Metal sheet piling is currently being installed along the Hudson River shoreline.

Next steps for this first phase of work include cleanup of coal tar beneath River Road and development of a plan to address high concentration arsenic areas at the site.

Cleanup of river water and contaminated sediment will be addressed in the second phase of cleanup in the future following selection of a cleanup plan.
