Portage Cove Harbor Dredging Underway

In an effort to keep the public informed with regard to the Portage Cove Harbor Expansion Project, the Haines Borough (AK) has released the latest update on the project.

According to the update, Pacific Pile & Marine will be continuing inner harbor dredging this week.

Our dredging operations will be working around the south of the harbor. PPM will also work on the new sewer outfall and will be placing material upon the newly placed outfall. PPM also intends to reinstall the transient float so please be mindful of the reinstalled float,” said the Haines Borough.

The Portage Cove Harbor Expansion project includes harbor basin dredging works, steel pile supported wave barrier, moorage pile replacement and upland parking area works. The dredging portion of the project consists of removal of approx 130,000 cubic yards of marine sediment from 7 acres below the Mean High Water mark (MHW), to provide sufficient water depth at all tidal ranges.

The borough expects all work to be completed by May 31, 2018.
