Leeds City Council recently released a fly-through video of the of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme construction works in progress.

The project, led by the City Council in partnership with the Environment Agency, is split into two phases.

Costing some £50 million, the Phase 1 of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme is one of the largest river flood defense schemes in the country. The work began in January 2015 and is due to be completed in summer 2017.

When complete, it will provide an increased level of protection from flooding from the River Aire and Hol Beck for residents and businesses in the city center.

Work on Phase 2 is now progressing. The contract has now been awarded for the feasibility and initial design stage for Phase 2 of the flood alleviation scheme.

The business case is expected to be submitted in autumn 2017, following which the outline design will be progressed with a view to tendering and awarding a construction contract in summer 2018.
