Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project Wins Award

Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project – Phase 1b/c – was one of the winning projects at Wales Engineering Awards 2017.

The ICE Wales Cymru 2017 Project Awards – which celebrate the contribution of civil engineering – saw projects from across Wales compete for a number of awards.

Commending the entrants, ICE Wales Cymru Director, Keith Jones said, “our awards celebrate civil engineering, its benefits to communities and the economy of Wales and further afield. The President of ICE Professor Tim Broyd came to Wales to meet the winners and present them with their glass trophies and framed certificates.

The Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project has been announced as the Bill Ward Sustainability Award 2017 winner.

The project combined the construction of a new section of promenade and concrete stepped revetment with the importation of a million tonnes of golden sand to breathe new life into a deteriorating and underused frontage, providing a single holistic solution to the town’s regeneration and coast protection needs.
