Great Lakes Dredge About to Complete Duck Beach Nourishment

The Town of Duck beach nourishment project is in its final stage with some finishing touches being done right now, reports the town.

According to the report, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company anticipates completion of the project in Duck within the next few days.

Due to the high volume of activity on the beach during the final stages of the project, the construction zone remains between approximately Pintail Dr. and Sprigtail Dr. All dunes have been constructed and beach access can be obtained by walking along them to the open areas on either side of the construction area,” the report said.

There will be a final Duck public update meeting on the project this coming Thursday, June 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall.

GLDD was awarded this $38 million beach nourishment contract to complete the base bid work on the Dare County Beach Nourishment Project back in 2016.

Utilizing hopper dredges, approximately 4 million cubic yards of sand will be dredged and pumped on shore to replenish the coast in Dare County towns of Duck, Kitty Hawk, and Kill Devil Hills.

Work on the Duck portion of the project started in May 2017 and the whole project is expected to be completed by the fall 2017.
