ESCP to Present Gosport Coastal Defenses

The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) together with the Environment Agency is about to hold the first out of three public exhibitions about the Coastal Defense Improvements in Gosport.

Gosport Borough Council is undertaking a project to recommend the replacement and improvement of sea defenses at three Gosport sites; Forton, Seafield and Alverstoke.

Once built, the three schemes will reduce tidal flood risk to 541 Gosport home until 2060.

In August 2016, the Environment Agency approved the release of £320,000 of capital Grant in Aid to Gosport Borough Council. The Council will use this fund to prepare a business case and outline design for the three priority tidal Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management schemes (FCERM Schemes).

According to ESCP, current estimates indicate that construction of the three tidal Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management schemes (FCERM Schemes) may cost £2.4 million and could start in 2018/19, subject to further funding approval from the Environment Agency.
