USACE’s Open House on Upper Pool 4 in Red Wing

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting an open house today in Red Wing, Minnesota, to discuss a study to improve habitat in and around Upper Pool 4 of the Mississippi River.

The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. with a short presentation at 5:30 p.m., at the Red Wing Public Library Community Room.

The Corps officials and staff from other resource agencies will be available during the open house to answer questions and listen to feedback.

This study will allow the Corps to investigate opportunities to utilize dredged material from Pool 4 to improve the ecosystem in the same pool.

Potential opportunities for the Corps to improve the pool include using dredged material to build islands, dredging backwater areas, creating and/or improving wetlands, stabilizing the shoreline stabilization and planting floodplain forest.
