Jay Cashman: Conversion of Kraken

In their Summer 2017 Issue of the Company Magazine, Jay Cashman, Inc. said that the company’s hydraulic barge offloader Kraken has been refitted recently so it can now operate either as a barge offloader or as a booster barge.

The American heavy-construction company based in Quincy, Massachusetts, said in the magazine that the Kraken can also operate as a barge offloader and booster barge simultaneously.

The Kraken is equipped with a six-point mooring system for offshore applications, hydraulic spuds for other applications and can work together with any mechanical dredge in Cashman’s fleet as well as with the trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) Atchafalaya.

With more than 4,500 total installed horsepower, the Kraken can easily offload and pump dredged material to a confined disposal facility (CDF) or to a beach, said Cashman.

The offloading pump is maneuvered by a large, 120-ton Komatsu 1250 excavator.
