Preparations Underway for San Luis Rey River Dredging

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, will soon begin the sediment removal project in the San Luis Rey River.

“Due to the amount of material to be removed, heavy construction equipment and dump trucks will be running continuously for 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. The San Luis Rey Bike Trail will be completely closed during the project (approx. September 5 – March 31) from Foussat Road to Douglas Drive,” said USACE in its announcement.

Apart from dredging, some 150,000 cubic yards of beach compatible sand will be transported onto the beach between Seagaze and Pine Streets.

Non beach compatible sand will be transported to the El Corazon Waste Facility, USACE said.

The plan comes as a part of the overall San Luis Rey Flood Control Project in San Diego County, which was developed by USACE and the City of Oceanside.
