MTCC’s New TSHD Sets Sail for the Maldives

MTCC’s new trailing suction hopper dredger, the Mahaa Jarraafu, is on its way to the Maldives where she will be handed over to the new owner.

According to the company’s latest tweet, the newbuild set sail today on its maiden voyage from China, taking the long way home via Singapore.

The vessel is the largest in the Easydredge series of standard twin-screw trailing suction hopper dredgers, designed and built by Royal IHC.

TSHD Mahaa Jarraafu, like all ships in the series, is equipped with the specially designed Easydredge dredging equipment, including a state-of-the-art IHC dredge pump and a slender hull for increased speed and low fuel consumption.

In addition, the vessel has a ‘world dredging’ equipment package, which includes an adjustable overflow, bottom doors, jet water system and a shore pumping installation.

The Mahaa Jarraafu has a length overall of 92.95 meters and a hopper capacity of 3.700m³ per load. With the design dredging depth of 50 meters, the newbuild will revolutionize dredging industry in the Maldives.

Arrival of the $36 million dredger – constructed at the RMC shipyard in Qidong, China – is expected on 30th Oct 2017.
