Dare County has just released the latest update on their Buxton Beach nourishment project, saying that the Weeks Marine’s cutterhead dredger C.R. McCaskill broke a swing arm while riding out high waves over the last weekend.

Due to the approaching storm, the McCaskill is now in Norfolk and repairs will be completed there.

The hopper dredger R.N. Weeks has pumped approximately 23,000 cubic yards of sand at the northern landing point since it arrived last week.

This week, the R.N. Weeks will also seek shelter in Norfolk until the rough sea conditions have passed.

Upon completion of this coastal project, the widened shoreline will provide increased defense from coastal storms and beach erosion protecting property, communities and infrastructure located along the shoreline.
