Deltares to Assist in Development of Damietta Port

Adm. Ayman Saleh, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority (DPA), received yesterday Dr. Abdelazeem Mohamed, Chairman of River Transport Authority, Egypt (RTA), together with a delegation from Deltares Institute, The Netherlands.

The meeting was aimed to discuss possible ways of cooperation between the two sides.

Adm. Saleh made a presentation about Damietta Port (DP), exploring available potentials, infrastructure and various competitive advantages. He also highlighted DP’s potentials for river transport at the lowest possible costs hinting at the obstacles that may hinder the full use of this service.

Possible ways of cooperation that the Dutch institute can provide to DP include a comprehensive study of future projects, coordination between both sides through a unified strategic vision, a special study on ship maneuvers, as well as an assessment of the previous studies of sedimentation at DP and updating these studies according to the current developments,” reported DPA.

Deltares also offered to provide a feasibility study for the construction of new berths to the west of the western breakwater by making use of the dredging material taken from the navigation channel and the turning basin.

The setup of a new container terminal was also discussed during the meeting.
