Orion Marine Secures Houston Ship Channel Dredging Gig

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, recently awarded a contract in the amount of $5.65 million to Orion Marine Construction Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel, reports the FedBizOpps.

The Port of Houston is one of the world’s busiest ports, ranking first in the nation in foreign waterborne tonnage; first in U.S. imports; first in U.S. export tonnage and second in the nation in total tonnage.

In order to maintain safe navigation, the Houston Ship Channel requires periodic maintenance dredging.

Under the recent deal, Orion Marine will be required to remove over 600,000 cubic yards of maintenance material using a pipeline dredge.

According to the Army Corps, the dredging operations will take place from Exxon to Carpenters in Harris County, Texas.
