St. Tammany Parish Government has released an aerial footage of the Bayou Bonfouca Marsh Creation (PO-104) project, co-sponsored by the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

This project aims to create or nourish nearly 1,000 acres of intermediate marsh and will restore valuable habitat for flora and fauna of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and provide a storm surge buffer between the City of Slidell, Louisiana and Lake Pontchartrain.

After the project is complete, marsh vegetation should fill in those bare areas, similar to the nearby Goose Point/Point Platte (PO-33) project. Ideally, the rate of interior marsh loss will slow.
