Additional Funding for BURNCO Aggregate Project

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has allocated additional funds to seven recipients to assist their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed BURNCO Aggregate Mine Project.

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd. is proposing the construction and operation of the new sand and gravel mine located on the northwest shore of Howe Sound, approximately 22 kilometers southwest of Squamish, British Columbia.

The mine’s maximum production capacity will be approximately 1.6 million tonnes of sand and gravel per year, over an expected mine life of about 16 years. According to BURNCO, aggregate will be mined underwater using an electric powered floating clamshell.

The funding announced yesterday was made available through the Agency’s Participant Funding Program and will assist the participation of Indigenous groups in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment, which includes reviewing and providing comments on the Comprehensive Study Report.

The deadline for sending public comments for the proposed project is November 27th.
