Absecon Inlet Scheme Continues

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, is making good progress on the Absecon Inlet seawall and boardwalk reconstruction in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The Absecon Island coastal scheme is one of several along the New Jersey coastline being funded by $1.2 billion appropriated by Congress to rebuild and strengthen the state’s beaches following Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.

The project includes the construction of a large stone revetment backed by a steel sheet pile ‎bulkhead for 1,340 feet between Oriental and Atlantic Avenues.

The steel sheet pile seawall is fronted by multi-ton capstones, corestone and marine mattresses. According to the Corps, approximately 50,000 tons of capstone are being installed as part of the project.
