North Portsea Island Scheme Remains on Track

Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) has released an update of all work completed through November at Tipner Lake North Portsea Island Coastal Defense Scheme.

Working over the winter period has allowed the project to remain on schedule, reported ESCP.

Through the month of November we have completed 24 stepped revetment sections and 13 walls,” the Partnership said. “Also along the southern frontage, much of the stepped concrete apron has been constructed along with sections of the concrete wall.”

Following the wall upstand construction, the landscaping works will take place when the whole section is complete, added ESCP.

These new coastal defenses, being built as part of the North Portsea Island Coastal Flood Defense Scheme, have been designed to reduce the risk of coastal flooding and erosion to the area over the next 100 years.

The start of the works for this project was at Anchorage Park back in 2016 (completed in August 2016), followed by the Milton Common works which were completed in October 2016.

This phase of the Tipner Lake works – starting from the Mountbatten Centre, Twyford Avenue to the Ports Creek Roundabout – comes as the Phase 3 of the North Portsea Island works. Completion of the project is set for Autumn 2019.
