BURNCO Aggregate Mine Project up for Comment

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is conducting a federal environmental assessment of the proposed BURNCO Aggregate Mine Project, located approximately 22 kilometers southwest of Squamish, British Columbia.

The Agency has invited the public and Indigenous groups to comment on the Comprehensive Study Report.

This is the final opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed project. Written comments in either official language must be submitted by January 22, 2018,” the Agency said.

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd. is proposing the construction and operation of the new sand and gravel mine with the maximum production capacity of 1.6 million tonnes per year, over an expected mine life of about 16 years. According to the company, aggregates will be mined underwater using an electric powered floating clamshell.

Last month, Dredging Today announced that the Agency has allocated additional funds to seven recipients to assist their participation in the environmental assessment of the proposed BURNCO Aggregate Mine Project.
