Workshop on Lower Manhattan Coastal Project Set for December 19

The third public workshop for the Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency (LMCR) Project to design and implement a flood protection project for Lower Manhattan takes place on Tuesday, December 19, 1017, at Shuang Wen School, NY.

This workshop will focus on the Two Bridges neighborhood from Montgomery Street to the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency (LMCR) Project is an integrated coastal protection initiative aimed at reducing flood risk due to coastal storms and sea level rise in Lower Manhattan.

The LMCR Project spans the Lower Manhattan coast from Montgomery Street to the northern end of Battery Park City and seeks to improve access to the waterfront and enhance public spaces in the community.

This flood protection scheme is identified as a priority of the City of New York as outlined in the 2015 One New York: The Plan for a Strong and Just City, and coastal flood risk reduction for this area was a key component of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery Lower Manhattan NY Rising Community Reconstruction Plan.

The project builds upon several years of community planning efforts to improve the waterfront and additional support from the LMCR Project came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) National Disaster Resilience Competition to address sea level rise, storm surge, and other impacts of climate change.
