Review Period Opens for Toledo Harbor Dredging

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has just announced that review period for the Toledo Harbor Dredging and Dredged Material Placement document opens today and runs through January 14, 2018.

USACE anticipates the need to dredge and discharge sediment excavated from the federal navigation channels of Toledo Harbor, Ohio, in order to maintain sufficient depth for deep-draft commercial vessels.

The 2018 dredging operation at the harbor is scheduled to be performed during the period between July 1 and March 15.

Sediments will be removed from the channel bottom by a mechanical dredge and placed into hoppers aboard scow for transport to the designated dredged sediment placement area.

The sediment to be dredged from Toledo Harbor consists primarily of silts and clays, with some sands.

In 2018, an estimated total of 800.000 cubic yards of sediment will be dredged from the federal navigation project.
