Pieter van Oord has been named ‘Port Man of the Year 2017’ (Havenman van het Jaar 2017), Van Oord said in their latest announcement.

This title has been awarded since 1981 and is given for outstanding contributions towards the development of the Port of Rotterdam.

During the annual ceremony on 8 January, the award was presented by Frank de Kruif, chairman of ‘Port Man/Woman of the Year Foundation’.

The jury praised the company’s entrepreneurship, the focus on innovation and the social involvement.

As the 37th Port Man of the Year, I’m proud to be the new ambassador of the port of Rotterdam. As a global marine contractor, we have a lot in common with Rotterdam: always looking for new technological challenges, an international standing and an ‘actions speak louder than words’ mentality,” said Pieter van Oord.

Van Oord has continued to invest in new activities and innovation in the past year despite the difficult market conditions in the offshore industry. The company is at the forefront of companies that contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in the Netherlands. Pieter van Oord is a representative of a family with entrepreneurial spirit, said the company in the announcement.
