The Kingston District Council has just released the latest update on their Maria Creek Channel dredging project, saying that the excavation of seagrass in the waterway continued this week with approximately 10,000 cubic meters removed.

Council’s dredger is now in the water and will begin operations on Saturday, 13 January, in conjunction with the long reach excavator.

The dredger will concentrate on seagrass removal surrounding the boat ramp pontoons and then work its way to the sandbar at the entrance of the channel, said the council.

Subject to favorable conditions, it is hoped that the boat ramp facility will be re-opened sometime in February.
