The Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) has just posted this amazing photo, taken on August 8th, 1929, by the Chicago Architectural Photographing Company.

The photo shows the GLDD’s work on the South Branch of the Chicago River, from Polk to 18th Streets. Pictured are the Derrick Boat No. 58 and laborers excavating anchor sill trench.

GLDD has a rich 127-year history of developing and executing successful dredging and marine construction projects, operating the largest and most diverse dredging fleet in the U.S. comprised of over 200 specialized vessels.
