Titas River Dredging Project Kicks Off

The dredging operations on the Titas River in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, were officially inaugurated two days ago, the Dhaka Tribune reports. 

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee at the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Bangladesh, said: “The dredging work is expected to revive the once mighty river and its navigability.”

According to Babul Chandra Shil, chief engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board in Comilla Zone, this major development scheme will include dredging of the 90km-long river and its tributaries.

Dockyard & Engineering Works Limited, under the Bangladesh Navy, was awarded the contract for the dredging work. The project is being implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board,” he added.

It is expected that the Titas River dredging program will be completed by June 2020.
