River Wallington Barrier Replacement Works About to Begin

Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) in conjunction with Fareham Borough Council are undertaking replacement works to the defenses along the River Wallington.

According to ESCP, these works will involve removing the existing erosion barrier and replacing it with a like-for-like barrier.

The current barrier has reached the end of its serviceable life and is no longer maintainable. The replacement works will reduce the risk of erosion and manage the flood risk further upstream at Wallington Village.

Works are due to start on the 29th January 2018, and will last for approximately 3-4 weeks.

Due to space limitations in the area, a traffic management plan will be implemented allowing the safe delivery of materials to site. This will consist of a temporary one-lane road closure, to be removed on completion of each delivery minimizing disruption to residents and users of Wallington Shore Road, reported ESCP.
