Pacific Power Project on the Table

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, has received an application for a Department of the Army permit for a certain work in Josephine and Jackson County, Oregon.

The applicant, Pacific Power, is proposing to discharge dredged material and fill into 3.5 acres of wetlands to create a gravel pad for a new substation and infrastructure.

According to the Corps, the project site is located along the existing approximate 22 mile long 115 kV power line corridor from the existing Grants Pass substation near Grants Pass, Josephine County, east to a proposed new 500/230 kV substation near Sams Valley, and then southeast to the Whetstone substation near White City, Jackson County.

The proposed substation project would clear and grade a 20 acre site and discharge 31,209 cubic yards of fill material into 3.5 acres of wetlands to create the gravel pad to support the new substation and infrastructure.

The deadline for sending comments on the proposed work is March 2, 2018.
