PHOTOS: Whiskey Island Project Moves Forward

Coastal Engineering Consultants, a Naples, FL based company involved in coastal engineering, planning, survey and mapping, and coastal geology, has just released these amazing photos from the Caillou Lake Headland barrier island project, also known as Whiskey Island.

The restoration of Whiskey Island is located along the south central coastline of Louisiana and is being constructed with funds from the settlement of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The work includes beach and dune restoration using material dredged from the offshore ship shoal borrow source, as well as restoring the marsh platform along the western half of the island.

Utilizing a hydraulic cutter suction dredge and booster stations, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company will dredge approximately 10 million cubic yards of seabed sand and pump it 14 miles through a submerged slurry pipeline to create more than 900 acres of barrier island and marsh habitat.
