Odfjell Terminals Project Includes Dredging

Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam has announced that, in close collaboration with the Port Authority, the company will be expanding its jetty capacity.

According to Odfjell, they will be extending and reinforcing its existing jetty so that it can accommodate vessels in the LR2 (Large Range 2) size range – with a maximum deadweight of 160,000 DWT.

To ensure that this category of large vessels can access Derde Petroleumhaven – where the Odfjell facility is located – the Port of Rotterdam Authority will need to deepen the port basin to a depth of approximately 15 meters.

Managing Director Erik Kleine of Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam: “We have actively responded to our clients’ call for handling facilities for larger and larger vessels. We sincerely appreciate the Port Authority’s decision to contribute by deepening the port basin.

The expansion is in line with our policy to revitalize the Botlek area. That is why Rijkswaterstaat and the Port Authority will also be deepening Nieuwe Waterweg this year,” said Ronald Paul, COO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

This joint investment by Odfjell and the port is intended to attract additional storage and handling business and expand the existing range of services.

Odfjell expects to take the upgraded jetty into use in the final quarter of 2018.
